Acura MDX Paint Protection and Ceramic Coating
This Acura MDX came to Supreme Finish for long-term paint protection, easier maintenance, and a clean finish from the body panels to the tires. With its metallic gray paint, black wheels, and A-Spec styling, preserving the original finish was an important part of the project.
The Supreme Team installed STEK Paint Protection Film, applied a 6-year System X Pro+ ceramic coating to the rest of the exterior, and finished the tires with ceramic tire shine.
Did You Know?
The original MDX arrived for the 2001 model year as the industry’s first three-row SUV built on a unibody platform. That design combined family-sized passenger space with more car-like road manners, helping establish the formula used by many modern luxury SUVs.
STEK PPF Protects the Paint Without Hiding the Finish
For an owner who wants to preserve the original color of their vehicle, optical clarity is one of the most important qualities in a paint protection film. The film should protect the paint while allowing its color, metallic flake, and reflections to show through clearly.
At Supreme Finish, we recommend clear STEK PPF for its excellent optical clarity, especially when an owner wants to showcase the factory finish. Color PPF is an option for changing a vehicle’s appearance. Clear film serves a different goal: protecting the finish the owner already wants to keep.
That makes it a strong choice for this MDX. Its gray paint has metallic detail that becomes especially visible in direct sunlight. Clear STEK film preserves that appearance while adding a physical barrier against rock chips, light scratches, and everyday road debris.
For drivers spending time on I-540, I-40, and other busy roads around Raleigh, that protection has a practical purpose. Small stones thrown up by traffic can chip exposed paint. PPF helps absorb those minor impacts before they reach the finish underneath, although severe impacts can still penetrate the film. Read our article on how PPF protects cars from winter damage.
“When someone wants to protect their original paint, we look at both protection and appearance,” explains Kentrell Jackson, owner of Supreme Finish Auto Detailing. “The film needs to do its job without taking away from the color or the detail in the finish. That’s why clarity matters.”
6-Year System X Ceramic Coating
We applied System X Pro+ ceramic coating to the rest of the Acura’s exterior to enhance gloss, add environmental protection, and simplify regular washing.
Pro+ creates a slick, hydrophobic surface. Water beads and releases more readily, while dirt and road grime are easier to remove during maintenance washes. On a vehicle the size of an MDX, easier cleaning makes a noticeable difference in the effort required to maintain the exterior.
Benefits of System X Pro+ include:
- Up to six years of protection, depending on environmental conditions and care
- A clear, high-gloss finish that enhances the paint’s appearance
- Strong water repellency and reduced dirt adhesion
- Resistance to environmental contaminants and chemical exposure
- UV protection to help preserve the finish
- Easier routine washing and maintenance

1-Step Paint Correction if Needed
System-X Pro+ is a high-gloss 6-year ceramic coating that delivers a hydrophobic, self-cleaning surface with exceptional durability, making it a great choice for owners in Raleigh who want long lasting protection and a deep gloss finish.
On this Acura, the finished paint has crisp reflections and visible metallic depth. The gray body contrasts cleanly with the black grille, trim, and wheels, giving the exterior a consistent, well-finished appearance.
As a certified System X installer, we help owners choose a coating around how they use their vehicle and what they expect from its protection. Pro+ is a practical option for owners who want several years of protection and easier upkeep.

Why We Combine PPF and Ceramic Coating
PPF provides physical protection. Ceramic coating improves surface protection, gloss, and maintenance. Understanding that difference is essential when choosing a package.
We recommend PPF when reducing rock-chip damage is a priority. We recommend ceramic coating when an owner wants a finish that resists contamination and is easier to wash. Combining the two addresses both concerns without expecting one product to do everything.
“A coating isn’t going to stop a stone the way film can,” Kentrell explains. “We use PPF for that physical protection, then use the coating to help with the finish and the upkeep. Each service has a purpose.”
Regular care remains part of the process. Ceramic coating does not make paint scratch-proof, and contaminants still need to be removed. Our guides to washing a ceramic-coated vehicle and maintaining paint protection film explain how to care for both treatments between visits.
Ceramic Tire Shine
We finished the MDX’s tires with ceramic tire shine to give the sidewalls a clean, dark appearance that complements the gloss-black wheels.
Tires make a noticeable difference in the overall result. Dull or uneven-looking sidewalls stand out against clean wheels and glossy paint. Finishing them properly creates a more consistent appearance across the exterior.
On this Acura, the dark sidewalls and black wheels provide a sharp contrast against the metallic gray body. It is a smaller part of the package, but one that makes the finished vehicle look complete.
Did You Know?
The fourth-generation MDX introduced a multifunction second row with a removable middle seat. Keep it installed for extra passenger capacity, fold it down as an armrest, or remove it to create a passage to the third row. It gives owners more flexibility without committing permanently to a bench seat or separate captain’s chairs.
Courtesy Interior Cleaning
Every ceramic coating package at Supreme Finish includes a courtesy interior cleaning. We refreshed the MDX’s cabin so the owner could enjoy a clean interior along with the protected exterior.
The Acura’s perforated steering wheel, red stitching, and sporty cabin details complement its A-Spec styling. A clean interior allows those details to stand out and rounds out the vehicle’s overall presentation.
Final Results on This Acura MDX
The finished MDX has a bright, reflective exterior with clear metallic detail and strong contrast between the gray paint and black accents. The ceramic tire shine completes the wheel areas, while the courtesy interior cleaning carries that cared-for appearance into the cabin.
The value of this project extends beyond the day the vehicle leaves our shop. STEK PPF helps protect the covered paint from everyday road wear, and System X Pro+ makes ongoing exterior maintenance easier. The owner leaves with a protection package built around preserving the Acura’s appearance over time.
